Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, Thomas Southard, 67, was driving Pamela Stewart, 69, when he lost control on the interstate in Carroll County and crashed near the three-mile marker, officials say.

The 2004 Acura MDX overturned and landed on the roof after striking an embankment.

According to police, Southhard suffered minor injuries, but Stewart - who was not wearing a seatbelt - was ejected and died at the hospital after being treated for critical injuries.

Southard was cited for failure to maintain control of his vehicle. No additional details were provided by state police.
